AV Fistula
A patient with Need of regular dialysis is benefited with formation of AV fistula.
In this procedure the flow of blood in veins is increased by anastomosing with vein with artery as shown in picture below.
This helps in keeping adequate pressure in veins, which helps in future dialysis in chronic renal failure. This procedure is done in local anesthesia and the patient is discharged on the same day. It usually takes around 4-6 weeks for fistula to mature and some precautions about use of same arm are to be followed.
